PAOT® technology is the only method on the market for fast measurement of both antioxidant activity and overall oxidative activity.
It offers the possibility of analyzing different substances incorporated in water, alcohol or fat for example, which therefore removes the solubility problems of certain antioxidants.
PAOT® technology requires neither extraction (it is a non-destructive, non-invasive method) nor solubilization, which prevents any loss of antioxidant molecules.
It is the most precise and the most sensitive of the analytical methods because it measures all the antioxidant molecules present in the extract, unlike the other tests. Indeed, the latter do not take into consideration the nature, the specificity of the antioxidants and the solvent / extract interaction. Our approach offers an extremely interesting alternative to current dosage methods.
PAOT® technology allows several measurements:
- The measurement of the Total Anti-Oxidant Power of a product
- Measuring the oxidative stress of a cell
Total antioxidant power
Total antioxidant power measures the Total Antioxidant Content (TAC) of a given product.
Measurement of antioxidant activity using in vitro assays is paramount in evaluating food and nutraceutical products to determine their antioxidant benefits.
Over the years, a large number of analysis methods supposed to measure the total antioxidant power of food matrices have been developed. However, most of these methods have significant limitations, but also the disadvantage of being time consuming and requiring specific and complex analytical protocols and devices.
Oxidative stress
Oxidative stress is an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the ability of antioxidants to inhibit these toxic compounds before they damage cells. Therefore, we get an imbalance between antioxidants and pro-oxidants in favor of oxidants.
Oxidative stress is directly linked to the aging process of the skin, but also to the development of various pathologies, including the process of carcinogenesis.
However, in the matrices, antioxidants act as a protective system that fights against the action of free radicals. It is for their benefits that many food, cosmetic and even medicinal products are enriched with antioxidants (example: vitamin C, flavonoids, etc.).
Researchers are traveling around the world to discover new molecules with antioxidant properties to improve their products for consumers.
What is PAOT® technology?
PAOT® technology is a patented invention (PCT / FR2019 / 052835) based on the electrochemical nature of oxidative stress, defined as an electron donor-acceptor system. Thus, the use of electrochemical methods makes it possible to evaluate oxidative stress, that is to say the imbalance between anti-oxidants and pro-oxidants (free radicals).
This innovative technology is based on the measurement of the electrochemical potential of the matrix, and is thus able to calculate the ratio of oxidized forms to reduced forms present in the medium.
In addition to measuring the electrochemical potential, PAOT® technology can integrate spectrophotometric measurements for further analysis. The absorbance of the matrix varies depending on the formation of oxidized or reduced complexes, allowing a relationship to be established between antioxidant / oxidant concentrations and spectrophotometric measurements.
Electrochemical methods are used in various fields: the medical sector, pharmacy, chemical biology, food processing, etc. For example, in cosmetics, electrochemical methods are used to examine biological tissues (skin) in order to obtain a diagnosis.
PAOT® technology has been the subject of several clinical studies in collaboration with the University Hospital of Liège in Belgium (Ethics Committee N° 2017/342) and the University of Lorraine. The results have given rise to several publications:

PAOT Technologies®
2 analysis and measurement methods
Our technologies are designed for use in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, medical and cosmetic industries.
For the determination of antioxidant / oxidant activity:
- of the fluids and tissues (blood and its fractions, seminal fluid, skin, plants…)
- of food (fruit / vegetables, juice, tea, wine…)
- of cosmetics (creams, emulsions…)
- of pharmaceuticals (drugs…)
- of supplements and dietary supplementation (vitamins, nutraceuticals…)
PAOT Liquid Technology®
The PAOT Liquid Technology® is a device for directly measuring the total antioxidant activity of various products such as raw materials and processed food products, cosmetics and medicinal preparations, biological fluids or extracts. The measurement is carried out in a liquid medium, by dissolving the product in a reaction medium, then direct assay of its activity in solution.
The PAOT technology® Liquid is designed to measure the antioxidant activity / total oxidizing products, in solution, such as:
- The raw foods (fruits / vegetables, tea) and processed food (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and derivatives, milk, fish and their derivatives)
- The cosmetic and medicinal, vitamins, food supplements
- The biological fluids (blood and its fractions, seminal fluid, etc.)
PAOT Skin Technology®
The PAOT Skin Technology® is a device that measures the total activity oxidizing biological tissues such as skin and plants. PAOT Skin Technology® makes it possible to obtain measurements directly on the surface of the tissue, thanks to contact electrodes (identical to those used in cardiology).
The PAOT Technology® Skin is designed to measure the total concentration of oxidants and antioxidants of biological tissues (skin, root, leaf…). It is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of IN SITU / IN VIVO products in the fight against oxidative stress and to measure their bioavailability.
- Food supplements (vitamins, extracts, minerals, etc.)
- Food (juice, tea, coffee…)
- Pharmaceuticals (drugs)
- Cosmetic products (beauty creams)
